It has introduced several programs to provide better facilities in education, heath, and sanitation. It has also implemented several schemes for the socio-economic inclusion of women. It introduced the Women's Reservattion Bill in the parliament in 2008, to increase the representation of women in national and state legislatures. Unfortunately, the bill is still pending in the parliament. Despite the initiatives of the government, the gender disparities in India remains significant.
