Solution

The correct option is C Butane + Propene

The reaction in which hydrocarbons with high molecular masses, on heating in the absence of air, form hydrocarbons with lower molecular masses is known as a thermal cracking reaction.
However, the total number of carbon and hydrogen atoms present in the hydrocarbon with higher molecular mass will be equal to the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms of product present in total.

Whenever, an alkane dissociates a lower alkane and a lower alkene is formed.

In the given reaction heptane will undergo thermal cracking to form either butane and propene or ethane and pentene.
