Metaphase I:

  1. Homologous chromosomes are made up of chromosome pairs of approximately the same length, centromere position, and staining pattern, for genes with the same corresponding loci
  2. During the Metaphase I of first meiotic division, homologous chromosomes (bivalents) are aligned at the equatorial plate of the spindle.
  3. Bivalents are attached to the spindle fibres by their centromere.
