Question

Identify the type of following reaction:

AgNO3+NaClAgCl+NaNO3

Open in App
Solution

Double displacement reaction:

  • It is a chemical reaction in which two compounds in their aqueous solutions react to form two new compounds by the mutual exchange of their radicals.
  • In a general double decomposition, the reaction can be represented as
  • AB+CDAD+BC
  • For example, when silver nitrate(AgNO3) reacts with sodium chloride(NaCl), they undergo a mutual exchange of their radicals resulting in the formation of silver chloride(AgCl) along with sodium nitrate(NaNO3).
  • AgNO3(aq)silvernitrate+NaCl(aq)sodiumchlorideAgCl(s)silverchloride+NaNO3(aq)sodiumnitrate
  • The above reaction is also a precipitate reaction and silver chloride(AgCl) is the precipitate
