Clinical Thermometer
A kink is used in a clinical thermometer to prevent falling of mercury by its own. If it is not used then the moment the thermometer is drawn out of the body for taking the reading, the mercury level would drop.
Labratory thermometers are high precision thermometers which have a different range than clinical thermometer and do not have a kink.
The max-min thermometer is used to record the maximum and minimum temperatures reached over a period of time, like 24 hours at any location.
