Question

If 1.8 grams of glucose is given then find the number of atoms of carbon present in it.

Open in App
Solution

Glucose if C6H12O6. Its molecular weight will be
(12×6)+(12×1)+(16×6)=72+12+96=180gm
No. of moles in 1.8 gm = 1.8180=0.01moles
Now, no of molecules in 1 mole of glucose is =6.022×1023
Or, no. of molecules in 0.01 moles of glucose will be =6.022×1021
Now, 1 molecule of glucose has 6 carbon atoms
Therefore, no of carbon atoms in 6.022×1021 molecules of glucose will be = 6.022×1021×6
=3.6132×1022 carbon atoms
