Question

If 1000kg of coal is burnt what is the output

Open in App
Solution

Coal is mostly made of carbon, thus the equation for combustion will be:

C+O2→ CO2

Coal also contains sulfur that reacts with oxygen to form sulfur dioxide.

S+O2→ SO2

The other hydrocarbons in coal burn similarly, to produce carbon dioxide (and, because there is now hydrogen in the mix), water vapor:

CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2 H20

When 1000kg of coal is burnt output product formed is given in the above equation

Combustion equation for coal:

C + O2 => CO2 (12 g C)+(32 g O) => (44 g CO2)

For 1000kg
from the eqn the output will be heat energy and co2 emissions
