Solution

Let f(x) = x2+kx-54

It is given that, 12 is a root of the equation x2+kx-54=0.

Therefore, fx=0 when x=12.

On putting x = 12 in f(x) = 0, we get

122+k12-54=014+k12-54=01+2k-54=02k-4=02k=4k=2

Hence, if 12 is a root of the equation x2+kx-54=0, then the value of k is 2.
