Question

If 4 g NaOH are dissolved in 100 mL of aqueous solution, what will be the difference in its normality and molarity?

Open in App
Solution

Molecular wight of NaOH=23+16+1=40
The molarity of NaOH solution is
M=W2×1000Mw2×Vsol=4×100040×100=1 M.
Since, NaOH is monobasic acid its normality and molarity will be same.
Hence, the normality of NaOH solution is 1 N.
Thus, there is no difference in the normality and molarity of NaOH solution.
