Let the two numbers be x and y
so, 0.4(x+y) =0.6(x-y)
$\frac{(x+y)}{(x-y)}=\frac{0.6}{0.4}$
using componendo and dividendo we get,
$\frac{(x+y)+(x-y)}{(x+y)-(x-y)}=\frac{0.6+0.4}{0.6-0.4}$
$\frac{x}{y}=\frac{10}{2}$
$x=5y$
