If 5x10y=20 and 10x+20y=40 then find the value of x by using the substitution method.

Solution:
The given equations are,
5x - 10y = 20 ....(1)
10x + 20y = 40 ....(2)
From Eqn. (1) y=5x2010=x22
[1 Mark]

Putting the value of y in eqn. (2)
10x+20×(x22)=40
10x+10x40=40
20x=80
x=8020=4
