Given that,
$6 x + 2 = 20$
Subtracting 2 from both the sides, we get
$\Rightarrow 6 x + 2 - 2 = 20 - 2$
$\Rightarrow 6 x = 18$
Dividing both the sides by 6, we get
$\Rightarrow \frac{6 x}{6} = \frac{18}{6}$
$\Rightarrow x = 3$
