If 8 oranges cost ₹10.40, how many oranges can be bought for ₹33.80 ?
26
Number of oranges ∝ Cost of oranges
⇒Number of oranges = k × Cost of oranges where k is a constant.
That is, Number of orangesCost of oranges =k
Given cost of 8 oranges = ₹10.40
∴ 810.40=k−−−(i)
Let x be the number of oranges can be bought for ₹33.80.
∴ x33.80=k−−−(ii)
Equating (i) and (ii)
We get 810.40=x33.80
⇒x=33.80×810.40=26
∴ Number of oranges can be bought for ₹33.80 = 26
