Let's calculate $a$ and $b :$

$a = 1.1234 \times 100$
To multiply: Since there are two zeroes in 100, move the decimal point two places to the right in 1.1234

$\Rightarrow a = 112.34$

$b = 0.11234 \times 1000$
To multiply: Since there are three zeroes in 1000, move the decimal point three places to the right in 0.11234
