Let probability of occurrence of A =x
Let probability of occurrence of A =y
Probability of occurrence of both =xy = 18
Probability that both will not occur = (1x)(1y) = 38
Therefore,
x+y=34
y=34x
Substituting in the above equation,
(34x)x=18
8x26x+1=0
x = 14 or 12
