Given, a+b=6
Squaring both sides, we get
(a+b)2=62
=>a2+b2+2ab=36 ------------(i)
Also ab=4
Squaring both sides, we get
(ab)2=42
=>a2+b22ab=16 ------------(ii)
Adding (i) and (ii), we get
=>2(a2+b2)=52
=>a2+b2=26
