Question

If (a-b):(a+b)=1:11 , find the ratio (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3) .

Solution

Step 1: Find the relation between a and b.

Given: (a-b):(a+b)=1:11

Taking bcommon from L.H.S. :

bab-1bab+1=111

11ab-1=ab+1

11ab-11=ab+1

10ab=12

ab=65

5a=6b or a:b=6:5

Step 2 : Find the value of (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3).

Let us assume a=6k, b=5k

Substituting the values in (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3) we get

=5(6k)+4(5k)+155(6k)-4(5k)+3=30k+20k+1530k-20k+3=50k+1510k+3=5(10k+3)10k+3=51

Hence (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3)=5:1.
