We know that every magnet has two poles, namely- north pole and south pole. If a magnet is broken into a number of pieces, each piece becomes a magnet.

If a bar magnet gets broken into four pieces, these four pieces will also be four independent magnets.
Four independent magnets will have 8 poles in total.
These 8 poles contains 4 north poles and 4 south poles.
Therefore, there will be 4 north poles in total.
