Question

if a block is kept over another wooden block and the block kept down is slidedover any surface then the box kept over it also slides along it. does friction here helps to move the box kept above the bigger one?

Solution

  • Frictional force is the force which opposes the relative motion between two surfaces in contact.
  • Due to the frictional force between wooden block and the box kept over its surface, both of them can move as a whole. In the absence of friction, the box kept over the wooden block simply falls down behind the box as the block moves forward.
  • So, it the frictional force which causes both lower block and upper box slide as a whole together.
