But shortly have a magnitude and a direction so you'll say $90 k m / h$ or south. However, Scalars have a magnitude only without a direction.
Since the magnitude stayed the same in your example ( $90 k m / h$ ), the speed (scalar) will be the same, however the direction changed (the turned around a corner therefore the velocity (vector) changed its direction.
