If a chord joins both the side of a circle, can chord be taken as a diameter?

A chord means a line joining any two points on the circumference of a circle.
Hence, chord cannot be a radius.
It can be a diameter, if the chord passes through the centre of the circle. The longest chord is diameter.
Other chords are shorter than diameter.
