Squaring both sides,
=(a+1a)2=42
=a2+(1a)2+2(a)(1a)=16
=a2+1a2+2=16
=a2+1a2=14
Now,
a3+1a3=(a+1a)[(a2)(a)(1a)+(1a2)]
=4(a21+1a2)
=4(141)
=4(13)
=52
