Solution

The correct option is C 8a
If focal chord y2=4ax makes an angle α,α(0,π4)
With the positive direction of x axis, then minimum length of this focal chord is
Minimum length is when it has maximum angle i.e. α=π4
m=1
Equation of focal chord is
y=xay2=4ax

Solve both equations

x2+a22ax=4ax

x26ax+a2=0

x=6a±36a24a22

=3a±22

=(3±22)a

y=(3±22)aa=(2±22)a

A=((3+22)a,(2+22)a)

B=((322)a,(222)a)

AB=a(3+223+22)2+(2+222+22)2

=a(42)2+(42)2

=64a

=8a Units
