If a green plant is kept in dark with proper ventilation, can this plant carry out photosynthesis? Can anything be given as supplement to maintain its growth or survival?

Solution

Absence of light

No, green plants cannot photosynthesise in the absence of light. Sunlight or light energy is required for light reactions. The dark reaction of photosynthesis is dependent on the products of the light reaction. Hence, photosynthesis will not occur.

Supplement

Artificial light sources like a light bulb or tube light along with water can be given as a supplement to maintain its growth or survival.
