If a hammer and a one rupee coin are dropped simultaneously from the top of a tower. Which would reach the ground first? (Neglect air/atmosphere)
Both will reach at the same time
From the expression of acceleration due to gravity, it is clear that the value of ‘g’ depends only on the mass of earth. It does not depend on the mass of the body taken into consideration. All bodies at the near surface of the earth have the same value of ’g’ irrespective of their masses. So, both coin and hammer undergo same acceleration equal to 9.8 m/s2, produced due to the gravity of the earth. According to laws of motion, time at which they reach the ground depends only on acceleration. And hence, they hit the ground at the same time.
