We have seen that If α, β and γ are the angles which a vector OP makes with the positive directions of the coordinate axes OX, OY, OZ respectively, then cosα ,cosβ and cosγ are known as direction cosines of OP and generally denoted by letters l,m and n respectively.
Thus,I=cosα, m=cosβ & n=cosγ.
