The standard enthalpy of combustion of butane C4H10 (both n- and iso butanes are main constituents of cooking gas), representing the combustion of 1 mole of butane in the presence of oxygen, can be represented as follows.

C4H101mol(g)+132O2(g)4CO2(g)+5H2O(l)

(58g) of C4H10 as per the reaction rquires (132×32=208g) of O2

O2 required for 1 kg butane

=20858×1000 g
