If a magnet shows attraction between unlike poles and repulsion between like poles, then why is repulsion the only surest test of magnetism? Explain.

1. Attraction and repulsion are the properties of a magnet.
2. As we know a magnetic material may also attract a magnet.
3. When the two opposite poles of a magnet are near to each other the attraction takes place and also when a magnetic material is near to a magnet the attraction takes place.
4. And when the two likes poles of a magnet are near to each other then repulsion takes place.

Hence repulsion is the only surest test of magnetism.
