Question

If a man weighs 70 kg what will his weight be on moon?

Open in App
Solution

Actually,
in the question the given quantity is the mass of the man and not the weight
because unit of weight is N and unit of mass is Kg

As mass is same everywhere so the man would weigh 70 kg on moon as well as on earth.

acceleration due to gravity(g)=9.8 m/s2

Weight of man on earth(We)=mg

=70*9.8

=686 N

Weight of man on moon(Wm)=686/6
because the acceleration due to gravity of moon is 1/6 th of acceleration due to gravity of earth

=114.34 N (approx.)
