Solution

Redshirt under red light

  1. Our brain perceives an object to be of the color that it reflects and sensed by the eyes.
  2. When a red light falls on the red object, the object reflects the red light hence, the shirt will appear red only.
  3. Everything will appear red, and the shirt will be the brightest, the same brightness with which something white will show up under the red light.
  4. But after a while, your brain will adjust to the redness somewhat so the shirt might look a whitish red.

White shorts under red light

  1. The white color is a mixture of different colors (VIBGYOR), so the white short can reflect all the colors, thus, by reflecting red light, it appears red under red light.
  2. It looks more or less identical to how a red object would look under that same red light. They both look bright.
  3. That’s not to say it looks red, though, especially if the only light source is red. If you’ve ever worked in a dark room with a red light you know that, after a bit, things don’t look red.
  4. Your eyes and brain compensate. You don’t see much in the way of color, but red, orange, and yellow objects look brighter than green or blue objects.

Hence, both the white shorts and redshirt will appear red under the red light.
