Solution

The correct option is C 225
Amount of fuel at start = 1,324 tons
Amount of fuel used for the trip = 1,099 tons

Therefore, the amount of fuel left in the rocket will be = (1,324 - 1,099) tons

To subtract, we write the numbers one below the other.

Then, we start subtracting the digits starting from the right side.

9>4 So, we can write that as:

Take 1 from 2, so that 2 becomes 1.
Add 10 to 4, so that 4 becomes 14.
∴ Now, 14>9
On subtraction, we get,

14 minus 9 is 5.

9 is greater than 1, so we regroup again:
Take 1 from 3, so that 3 becomes 2.
Add 10 to 1, so that 1 becomes 11.

11 minus 9 is 2.

2 minus 0 is 2.

1 minus 1 is 0.

So, 1,324 - 1,099 = 225

Therefore, the amount of fuel remaining in the rocket will be 225 tons.
