The correct option is D
52 cm
Perimeter of the original rectangle = 16 + 8 + 16 + 8 = 48 cm

When a square of side 2 cm is cut off like in the figure shown, the perimeter loses a side of 2 cm and gains three sides of 2 cm.



So new perimeter = 48 cm - 2 cm + 2 cm + 2 cm + 2 cm
= 52 cm
