Solution

The correct option is A 6 km/hr
Let the speed of the train be x km/hr.
Total distance travelled = 6 km

Time taken by the train to travel 6 km = 6x hours

When the speed is slowed down by 3 km/hr, the new speed is (x3) km/hr.

Time taken to travel 6 km with the new speed is 6x3 hours.

From the given condition,
6x36x=1.

6x 6(x3)x(x3)=1

18=x (x3)

18=x23x

x23x18=0

x26x+3x18=0

x(x6)+3(x6)=0

(x+3)(x6)=0

x=3,6

Since speed can not be negative, we have x=6 km/hr.

Thus, the speed of train is 6 km/hr.
