The equation is x + a2 = 2x – 5

Substitute the value of x = a and then check

x + a2 = 2x – 5

a + a2 = 2x – 5

2a+a2 = 2x - 5

3a2 = 2x – 5

2x – 3a2 = 5

Putting x = a, we get:

2a – 3a2 = 5

4a3a2 = 5

a2 = 5

a = 5 × 2 = 10 or x = 10
