Question

If α and β are the zeroes of polynomial x25x+k such that αβ=1, find k

Open in App
Solution

x25x+k

Here, a=1, b=-5 and c=k

Now, α+β=b/a=(5)/1=5

αβ=c/a=k/1=k

Now,α - β =1

Squaring both sides, we get,

(αβ)2=12

(α+β)24αβ=1

(5)24k=1

4k=725

4k=24

k=6 So the value of k is 6.
