Question

If α and β are the zeros of the polynomial 2x2+7x+5, write the value of α+β+αβ.

Open in App
Solution

We have 2x2+7x+5=0

Here a = 2 , b = 7 , c = 5

α and β are the zeros

So sum of the zeroes

=α+β=ba=72

Product of zeroes =αβ=ca=52

Now just put the values

α+β+αβ=(α+β)+αβ

=72+52

=22=1

So required answer is -1

α+β+αβ=1
