On rubbing the ebonite rod with fur, electrons move from fur to the ebonite rod. Hence, the ebonite rod becomes negatively charged.

When the glass rod is rubbed with silk cloth, glass quickly loses electrons and silk takes electrons. Hence, the glass rod becomes positively charged.
