Question

If an element (atomic weight =50) crystallizes in FCC lattice, with a=0.50 nm, the density (in g/cm3) of unit cell if it contains 0.25% Schottkey defects is: (use NA=6×1023)

Open in App
Solution

Density of crystal decreases due to Schottkey defect. Effective number of atoms per unit cell in given lattice is
=4×(10.25100)=3.99
So, the density is
ρ=50×3.996×1023(0.5×107)3ρ=50×3.996×125×0.1ρ=2.66 g/cm3
