Solution

The correct option is C

π2

Explanation for the correct option:

Step 1. Find the value of k:

Let y=cos(x+y) ....(i)

Differentiate it with respect to x

dydx=-sin(x+y)1+dydx ....(i)

Equation of tangent is x+2y=k

Slope of tangent =-12

dydx=-12

-12=sin(x+y)112

-12=-12sin(x+y)

sin(x+y)=1

x+y=π2 ….(ii)

y=π2x

Step 2. Put the value of y in equation (i), we get

π2x=cos(x+y)

π2x=cosπ2 (from (ii))

π2x=0

x=π2

y=0

Step 3. Put y=0 in the equation of tangent, we get

x+2y=k

π2+0=k

k=π2

Hence, Option ‘C’ is Correct.
