Question

If an increase of 1 degree in global temperatures causes the Artic Ocean to remain ice-free for two additional weeks each year, how will it affect the oceans annual avarage albedo? Why?

Solution

Dear Student,
With an increase of 1 degree in global temperature, the ocean absorbs most of the excess heat which increases the ocean temperature. This affects marine species and ecosystems. Rising temperatures cause coral bleaching and the loss of breeding grounds for marine fishes and mammals. Also, many fish species are moving toward the poles in response to ocean warming, disrupting fisheries around the world.
