Question

If atomic number is nothing but the number of protons in an atom ,and we know that the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons, then can we say that the atomic number of an atom is the number of protons in an atom?

Solution

In any atom
Atomic number = No of proton = No of electron
Mass number = No of proton + No of neutron
So we can say atomic number is equal to number of electron which in turn equal to number of proton.

For ex., Oxygen atom atomic number is 8. That means it has 8 protons and 8 electrons.
