If blood group O+ has neither A antigen nor B antigen, then what does it comprise?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

People with O blood group do not have antigen responsible for either A,B or AB blood group as the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of antigen is not functional. The serum however contains IgM anti-A and anti-B antibodies. Therefore, an individual with group O can receive blood from a person with O blood group only but can donate blood to all the blood groups and therefore is regarded as a universal donor.
