If blue and yellow paints are mixed in the ratio 7:5 to make a new colour, blue paint is used 10 litres more than yellow paint then find how many litres of blue and yellow paint is used.
blue paint = 35 litres
yellow paint = 25 litres
Given the ratio in which blue and yellow paint are mixed = 7:5
∴ Let the volume of blue paint used = 7x and volume of yellow paint used = 5x
Given 10 litres of blue paint is used more than yellow paint
∴ 7x - 5x = 10
⇒ 2x = 10
⇒ x = 5
∴ volume of blue paint used = 7x = 7× 5
= 35 litres
and volume of yellow paint used = 5x = 5× 5
= 25 litres
