If car covers 16 km in x litres of petrol, and in 1 litre of petrol, it can cover x km. How much distance will it cover in 5 litres of petrol?
20 km
Distance covered in 1 litre=x km
∴ distance covered in x litres of petrol = x × Distance covered in 1 litre
= x ×x
= x2
Given, car travels 16 km in x litres of petrol
⇒ x2=16
⇒ x=4
So, distance covered by car in 1 litre = 4 km
So, in 5 litres it will cover 5 x 4 = 20 km.
