Question

If coal is non renewable source of energy then why does it replenish over millions of of year

Open in App
Solution

Dear student.

Coal is a fossil fuel formed from the decomposition of dead plants and animals (that were buried under the earth) by the action of pressure, intense heat and microorganisms. Natural decomposition process is slow and takes millions of years for the formation of coal. Hence it cannot be renewed or regenerated again in a short interval of time. It also cannot be reused. The coal reserves are limited and expected to vanish in the near future. Because of this, coal is regarded as a non-renewable resource of energy.
