Question

If CONTENT is coded as XLMGVMG, then what is the coding of BEAUTY ?

Solution

I guess this a little tough one to crack.Not becouse it is difficult, but becouse it requires a new line of thought.Look at CONTENT andits coding XLMGVMG carefully.
CONTENT XLMGVMG First notice that though N and T are repeated in CONTENT,their corresponding coded letters are the same. keep this chech always at the back of your of your mind. Why?
Because to understand the relationship between DIAMOND and VQYMKLV and between DIAMOND and EKDQTTK. In the first case above both Ds are replaced with Vs but in the second,both D's don't connect to the same alphabet. Each of the examples above requires a different train of though.If replaced alphabets are represented by the same symbol in the code, then the encoding scheme is sort static and dependent on the alphabet under consideration.
In the other case,the encryption scheme is not dependent on the alphabet under consideration. Usually the consideration in such a case is the location of the alphabet. But we'll see that later.CONTENT XLMGVMG
Notice that if a particular alphabet is close to the start of the alphabetical series then in the code the alphabet is closer to the end of the alphabet series.Look at the following encryption scheme. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA
A replaced with Z and B with Y and so on. This is the scheme used to encode CONTENT and XLMGVMG.
Another way to look at code is to subbtract the value of the alphabet from 27.
So BEAUTY will be simple encoded as YVZFGB by looking at the scheme of alphabets.
B=2 27-2=25=Y
E=5 27-5=22=V
A=1 27-1=26=Z
U=21 27-21=6=F
T=20 27-20=7=G
Y=25 27-25=2=B
I think this is good enough for a beginning.
