Solution

The corpus luteum is formed from the ruptured Graafian follicle after the process of ovulation. The structure is responsible for the release of hormone progesterone which helps in the progression of the changes during pregnancy. Progesterone is responsible for making suitable changes in the endometrium for implantation of the fertilized ovum and the nourishment of the embryo. If the corpus luteum becomes inactive, the embryo will not develop. There will be no implantation which will result in abortion of the child.
