Question

If cosx+sinx=12, Find the tanx.

Open in App
Solution

cosx+sinx=1/2
Divide both sides by cosx
So, 1+tanx=12cosx=secx2
squaring both sides
(1+tanx)2=sec2x4
4(1+tan2x+2tanx)=sec2x=(1+tan2x)
4(1+tan2x+2tanx)=1+tan2x
3tan2x+8tanx+3=0
tanx=8±824(3)(3)2.3
=8±64366
=8±286
=8±276
=4±73
tanx=4±73
