Question

If f(x)=tan1(sinx+cosx),0xπ Determine the intervals of monotonicity.

Open in App
Solution

dydx=11+(sinx+cosx)2(cosxsinx)

solving and using trigonometric identities

=cosxsinx2+sin2x=2cos(x+π/4)2+sin2x

The denominator 2+sin2x is always +ive.

dydx>0 or <0 when cosxsinx>0 or <0 or 2cos(x+π/4)>0 or <0 in 0xπ.

Hence the same answer as given by (1) and (3) only of part (c), and not by (2) as

0xπ.
