Question

If each edge of a cube is increased by 100%, then find the percentage increase in the surface area of the cube.

Open in App
Solution

Let the edge = a cm
New measure of edge after increase = 2a
Total surface area of original cube = 6 ( <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> a2)
TSA of new cube = 6 (2a)2 = 6 [4a2]
= 24 a2
= 4 x total surface area of original cube
Increase in area = TSA of new cube - TSA of original cube
= 3 x Total surface area of original cube
Therefore, percentage increase in surface area = 300%
